Christmas project

...or why I'm not a good caricature artist

my tita requested that I make a caricature of her for her Christmas card.

I've always had a hard time capturing the likeness of relatives and friends. Moreso a caricature which involves exaggerrating features that may not be pleasing to the subject/client.

So this was the sketch after a lot of false starts

And since the resemblance somehow disappears when I ink it, I decided to just do the work on Illustrator.

Unfortunately, my tita didn't like it. It made her look too old, daw. She wanted to use an older drawing of her from 6 years ago because it looked more alive, daw. Well, that is a drawback of Illustrator. In the hands of a newbie, the work will look dull and flat compared to a hand drawn artwork.

So this is how it turned out. I had to flip the work since my older drawing was facing the other way.

But I still like what I did and did some Photoshop shading on it and added a paper texture to make it look less digital.

evolution of gadget illustration

here's a step-by-step process of an illustration i made for our office publication about gadgets our oc-workers can't live without.  i started with a rough pencil sketch which i scanned...
...then traced in illustrator. i haven't used it in quite a while so it took some getting used to.
i then finished it in photoshop with some shading  and adjusted the colors a bit. the blanket and bed cover were so bright, they were distracting us from the gadgets.
